If you are considering visiting Cyprus Car Hire is thoroughly recommended to make the most of your visit to Cyprus which has fast become an all year round destination. There is minimal public transport available and therefore car hire is the most economic and convenient way for travelling around. The roads are very quiet and you can travel from one end of the Island for example Paphos in West Cyprus to Ayia Napa in East Cyprus in approximately two hours via a motorway which runs right the way from Paphos to Ayia Napa, via Limassol and Larnaca. Whilst motorways can be boring this particular piece of road runs along the coast so you have beautiful scenic views along the way, so no doubt you will probably pull off the motorway a few times to visit some of the beauty spots you will see.
Nicosia is the Capital of the Island also known as Lefkosia and is a thriving modern city with plenty to offer everyone. Driving by rental car to Nicosia is straightforward although once in the town centre the roads are fairly congested. There is a huge variety of restaurants available offering cuisine from all around the world as well as plenty of designer shops and high street chain shops. Whilst in Nicosia it is worth taking your hire car across the border to the occupied northern part of Cyprus, you will need your passport and will have to purchase a day’s insurance cover at the Checkpoint as your standard insurance taken out with the hire car company does not cover you in Northern Cyprus. Take a drive to the ghost town of Varousha, Famagusta where you can drive around the perimeter of the sealed off area and look into the derelict and deserted town that was once a throbbing holiday resort.
Driving is on the left in Cyprus and the speed limit on most motorways is 100km. All rental cars have red number plates and come with recovery and all the relevant insurance. A drive up into the Troodos is also well worth considering but make sure you have a full tank of petrol before you set off as petrol stations are scarce which cannot be said for the miles and miles of beautiful trees and scenery that you will pass, along with beautiful traditional Cypriot villages.
